Paperback Books

If you're an avid reader like me then you would undoubtedly find that Paperback books make life a whole lot simpler! Lately, I have snapped out of the phase that hard cover books are more classic than Paperback books. The truth is, if you enjoy a good book then you would find Paperback books more user friendly!

Bookstores are my weakness. I could spend hours in them, looking at all of the paperback books. Each one of the paperback books offers a different adventure that I am tempted to embark on. Sometimes, I'll take one of those paperback books and make myself comfortable in a nearby chair and read some of the pages.

Once the story looks interesting enough, then I will purchase it. If not, then I return it to the shelf. I prefer paperback books to hardback for several reasons. First and foremost, they definitely cost less money.

They also take up less room and are easier to carry around. Sure, sometimes the paperback books in my house end up with some torn covers or scratches on them but I enjoy them all the same.

When I was younger, my mother would take me to the library and I would spend forever looking at all of the paperback books and trying to decide which ones I wanted to take home. It used to drive her nuts.

Now, I drive my husband nuts when I wander through the aisles of paperback books in our local bookstore. He loves bookstores as well, but he certainly doesn't the same patience that I have.

He'll read paperback books at home and halfway through them decide that he hates it. I try to tell him to take some time, like I do, and leaf through the paperback books to see if there is a great interest there before purchasing it. Of course, that requires patience and he doesn't grasp that concept.

Originally, Best sellers used to come out only in hardback. In fact you would have to wait several months before they were available as paperback books. Now, that has changed somewhat. Paperback books are becoming available sooner. I for one am thrilled about that.

I mean, why should I have to spend $20 just to read a book in hardback when I can buy paperback books for $5. It just seemed strange. Paperback books make much more sense for me. However, my mother is the opposite though; she tends to not read paperback books. She prefers the hard covers. I'm not sure why. Perhaps she enjoys spending the extra money.

Or, maybe she's still traumatized by my past treatment of paperback books. I used to be one of those people who didn't use bookmarks. I'd lay the book upside down; open to the page I stopped on. She claims I damaged a lot of her paperback books that way. I've become my mother now though, and scold my husband for doing that to his books. He just rolls his eyes and continues to read.

Over the years I have found that Paperback books are much more practical a purchase than hard cover books. In addition they also make wonderful gift ideas for people who share a passion for reading.
