Existence ago, students relied on their memory to keep track of important tasks that needed to be completed for their academic studies. Some students proved to be quite good at retaining such long-term information while others found themselves forgetting the finer details of the task.
Nearly every one of the students who had gotten burned by their unreliable memory chose to start jotting down their assignments in their notebooks.
This early form of the assignment book was more effective than the failing memory method. However, the student could easily lose track of tasks that needed to be completed later in the course. He still had to rely on his memory to keep track of assignments in his notebook.
In college I was one off the most forgetful students. I didn’t have an assignment book to help me organize my time. My academic tasks were commonly kept somewhere in my lecture notebook and were often lost. Eventually, I figured that using a red pen for important tasks would be a good idea. The problem was remembering the red pen.
All students have a lot on their minds and teachers do as well. Today’s assignment book is not only for students. Many teachers use these handy organizational tools to map out the semester. It is also a great tool for keeping everyone on the same page.
Younger offspring are often provided an assignment book that they take home with them on a daily basis. The teacher writes the homework task on the chalkboard for students to copy into their assignment books. The students take the books home and their parents initial the page once the homework is completed.
In all schools the teacher collects each assignment book and uses them as a reference when checking the student’s homework. If the parents initial the homework page and the task is not complete or if the task is incorrect, the teacher can send a short note stating that the child may need some assistance in his assignments. This helps to alert parents of any homework problems.
